California Proposition 65
In 1986, the State of California enacted legislation designed to inform California residents about chemicals and compounds in the environment around them that might be harmful if exposed to them. Chemicals and compounds determined by the State of California to cause cancer, reproductive harm, and/or birth defects require a warning stating this risk.
Viking Mountain Tool Works sells many products that require this warning. The two primary exposure risks from our products are the following:
- Dust from wood and other substances generated as a by-product of using our tools
- Lead – It is possible that some of our products made from or containing brass contain traces of lead as a byproduct of mining of zinc and copper, which are component metals of brass.
Your risk of exposure to these substances is dependent upon how often you work with these tools. To limit exposure, work in a well-ventilated area, preferably with a dust collection system in place, wear safety gear designed to filter microscopic particles, and thoroughly wash your hands when you are done working.
